David knew depression.
PSA 116:3 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
He also knew how to overcome it.
Ever sit down and hold a conversation with yourself?
David did many times,
Here are a few.
Psa_116:7 Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.
Psa 116:8 For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
Psa_116:9 I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
David would Command himself.
Here he commands himself to rest!
Command your thoughts and actions. He tells himself "Rest"! He knows God has dealt bountifully in the past and will also in the predicament he is in now!
Then he prophesies his future in verse 9
Psa_116:9 I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
The Hebrew word for before is paniym, paw-neem, means face! I will walk with Gods face on my life!
The best way to beat depression, is to, in spite of circumstances, command yourself.
Rise up on the inside and command yourself to do what you do not feel like doing.
David does this again!
David tells David!
bless God and don't forget His benefits!
Psa 103:1 A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
Psa 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Psa 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Psa 103:4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
Psa 103:5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
Speak out this Psalm!
Stop letting your feelings whip you like a defeated pup.
Get to the Word of God.
Command yourself! I WILL...........bless the Lord. I WILL not forget His benefits!
David has a dicussion with himself.
In a dark place.
Psa 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
He asks himself!
Why are you cast down?
Why are you disquieted?(disturbed)
Commands himself!
Hope in God!
I WILL praise Him!
Don't not let your flesh or feelings win the argument!
Then your dark sad days will be over forever!
Command yourself out loud!
Say it!
I will not be cast down!
I will not be disquieted! (disturbed)
I will trust God.
I will hope in Him!
I will remember His benefits
I will praise Him!
I will rest!
Lastly,
1Sa 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
Encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
Don't wait for someone else to encourage you.
That bus may never come!
1.Find the promises.
2.Personalize them. (Speak them out-loud like David!)
3.Encourage yourself.
As you do, The very atmosphere will change! Your life will be transformed!
The Word of God is a seed (Mark 4)
It will produce!
